The Weekly Grind - REASON, RITUALS, RHYTHMS Pt. 2

And so as winter lingers, we at LIFE BREAD appreciate the many benefits a gentle and consistent rhythm offers as we spend both leisurely and sustainable time in our baking room of choice (the kitchen). Where stocking, selecting and grinding fresh wheat berries accesses our individual creativity and connection to body, mind and senses.

Preparation and patience produce our anticipated outcome, and so we attune to what truly matters. We eat more slowly, and we savour the rich taste of our bread. We take time to relax, rejuvenate and refresh as the pace of this season allows us.

Something is forming, not just our daily bread, but we ourselves feel lighter and grateful as we faithfully wait.

Wholeness ONE LOAF AT A TIME!

Stay tuned for more nutritional insights, current practices and anything else we might KNEAD for our rewarding daily bread life!

ANCIENT GAMES AND GRAINS

Bread symbolized discipline, endurance and provision; values at the heart of an Olympic athlete.

In Ancient Greece, bread wasn’t a filler but a fuel. Athletes commonly ate freshly ground coarse breads or grain porridges.

Freshly ground grains provided slow, sustainable energy for stamina and recovery, long before the concept of carbohydrates existed. They also provided natural protein for strength, fibre that sustained, rather than crashed or spiked, and minerals like iron and magnesium for optimal muscle function.

Sometimes the strongest training isn’t about adding more (present-day powder and power bar supplements) but returning to what always was: natural and nutritious grains.
