The Weekly Grind - The Importance of Bread in Easter Celebrations

Here we are once more in the transition between winter and spring. In that messy middle, where Mother Nature decides our next move. But as spring awaits, we at LIFE BREAD foresee its arrival, and so we fashion our lives accordingly. We lighten our loaves, our rituals and our rhythms. We re-adjust, we realign, we remember our vision and vitality.

We become expectantly creative with (FRESH) ideas, and a little more energetic. We desire movement and flow. We are getting restless.

We blend the wheat berries with a multitude of possibilities and exciting combinations. Nuts, dark chocolate, citrus, blueberries, cherries, bananas, avocados, dates/figs/currants/cranberries. We avail the likes of honey, molasses, olive oil, and the flavours of fresh ginger, cinnamon and mint, into our perhaps smaller, yet abundantly rich batches. (Drop it all in the breadmaker and press start!)

We stop and smell the ‘RISINGS’, the hot cross buns, the muffins, the braided breads, the waffles. Daily bread becomes a joyful anchor as we gently shift our routines alongside these unordinary seasons.

Wholeness at its tasteful best! We are getting ready!

Stay tuned for more nutritional insights, current practices and anything else we might KNEAD for our rewarding daily bread life!

Did You Know?

Easter and Wheat Grains

In Christian teaching, wheat represents death and new life, mirroring the very essence of EASTER.

“Truly I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains a single grain of wheat, but if it dies it produces a great harvest.” - John 12:24

Grain must be buried in the earth (soil) before it produces new life, symbolizing Christ’s death and resurrection.

Easter Breads

Hot Cross Buns - Eaten Good Friday with white cross icing on their tops (representing crucifixion)

Artos - Blessed during the Easter church service

Casatiello - a savoury wheat bread from Naples

Unleavened bread is eaten at the Seder meal, representing a quick exit from Egypt and remembered during Passover

Bread essentially marks the end of the fasting season of Lent.
